Come explore the transformative power of the Bible through our deep dive on the History of the Bible. This Teacher Retreat has two tracks, each guest must select one. All costs, except for travel to the hotel in DC, are covered by the Herzog Foundation.
Track One: Biblical Literacy
How do we read Scripture and interact with the Word in the way the authors intended? How do we navigate tough questions through the lens of biblical authors and help our students better interact with Scripture?
It is important to understand the overarching redemptive story of the Scriptures, but are our students able to see how seemingly isolated events over several millennia fit into this metanarrative? In this track we’ll look at the historical context of the periods when biblical texts were written to help us determine how the Holy Spirit moved the authors to pen God’s word.
Recommended attendees: elementary teachers, middle school and high school Bible teachers, middle school and high school English, science, history, or other teachers, campus pastors, spiritual life directors (or similar), Church-school leaders, or other teachers as they desire to engage in academic conversation about biblical literacy.
Track Two: Biblical Scholarship
How did the sixty-six books that make up our Bibles today come to be? Throughout history there have been debates and questions surrounding this question and the authenticity of Scripture. In this track we will explore in depth these questions and more about Scriptures as we know it. We’ll consider different takes on theological questions and help equip you to address tough questions from students. Topics may include the authenticity of scripture, the origins of the Bible as we know it today, forgeries, and more.
We will use varying opinions and perspectives to strengthen our view and understanding of Scripture. Please note, that there may be differences and debates in this track based on the other school leaders and scholars in attendance.
Recommended attendees: high school Bible teachers, campus pastors, spiritual life directors (or similar), Church-school leaders, or other teachers as they desire to engage in academic conversation about biblical scholarship.
Please note: if you are unsure of which track to choose, guests are welcome to attend the Biblical Literacy Track and come to a later event to attend the Biblical Scholarship Track. Reach out to training@herzogfoundation.com if you have questions about the different tracks.
